Overview
Oxford is, of course, famous the world over for its university, which is the oldest in the English-speaking world. It’s been teaching students for approaching a thousand years! All that learning and history means that Oxford is one fascinating place and with City Sightseeing, you won’t miss a thing.
You can hop on and off the bus at any of the stops while your ticket lasts. It’s the perfect way to get about town and to see all there is to see. You can’t come to Oxford without visiting some of the many amazing colleges that make up the university. So, make sure you hop off along the route at Christ Church, Brasenose, Queen’s and Trinity. There are stops near them all and they’re all worth seeing. The city is full of architectural delights. Fans of Harry Potter should pay particular attention to Christ Church…
Oxford isn’t just a centre of learning though. It has much to offer. Hop off at Park End Street and you can take a walk along the delightful Castle Mill Stream, one of the several rivers, brooks and streams that run through the city. The most famous of them is the Thames, which begins its journey to London upstream of Oxford. If you want to see the Thames itself, head to Christ Church Meadow, near the college of the same name, but remember that to locals its known as the River Isis, not the Thames.
Another great stop is New Road, where you’ll be able to see Oxford Castle and Prison. This partly ruined Norman castle became a prison in the 17th century, and today it’s a fantastic museum that all the family will enjoy (admission not included). And that’s just the start of what there is to see and do in Oxford.
