Manchester

Known throughout the world as the birthplace of the industrial revolution, Manchester has a proud history in science, politics, music, arts and sport!

Home of The Hacienda, the Football League, Coronation Street and Vimto, Manchester lays claim to some of the best in British invention. But its history is richer and longer than many imagine. The Roman fort of Mancunium is the earliest recorded history of Manchester back in around 79 AD and you can still find remains of the ancient fort today. In the 19th century, Manchester began to grow at an exponential rate. During the industrial revolution, textile manufacturing boomed and Manchester was for a time the most productive centre of cotton processing.

The city was hit substantially during the second world war and for many years after, but the 1990s saw Manchester bounce back and begin extensive regeneration. Manchester has always been in the spotlight for music and is usually referred to as the birthplace of indie artists. So much so that Manchester was credited as the driving force behind Indie music in the 1980s and no wonder, with a roster of local emerging artists like The Smiths, The Stone Roses and later Oasis that call the city their home.

Manchester is a city full to the brim with culture, with so much to see and experience it makes a perfect destination for all.
